Prop Comic by Veronica Graham. $10. 20 pages, newsprint, tabloid format. Published by Most Ancient.
Olive Oyl returns to newsprint, and walks through a shifting, confusing and cold city, her old friends absent. There are lots of horror comics in the world that aren't scary, but this one (which isn't attempting to be a 'horror' comic as far as I can tell) actually felt menacing. It calls to mind Alan Moore's 'Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?', a familiar shape of a character, now fending for themselves in a landscape where unthinkable things can happen. I was unfamiuliar with Graham's work prior to reading this, one of the most intriguing new (to me) cartoonists I've come across over the last year.
